Mayor Michael Coleman urged residents on Tuesday to take extra steps to stay cool and safe as temperatures reach the middle 90s this week.
The city announced that all residents are invited to visit any of Columbus Recreation and Parks’ eight air-conditioned recreation centers, four outdoor pools or its outdoor sprayground pad.
“I urge all our residents to do what they can to stay cool during this week’s heat wave,” Coleman said. “While anyone can suffer from a heat-related illness, extreme heat is particularly dangerous to young children, seniors and people with underlying medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes and heart disease.”
Columbus Public Health offers the following tips to stay cool and safe during extreme heat and humidity:
-Drink plenty of water; do not wait until you are thirsty.
-Stay inside in air conditioning whenever possible. If you do not have an air conditioner, use recreation centers, movie theatres, malls, libraries and other public places that are cool.
-Avoid beverages with alcohol, caffeine and sugar that will dehydrate you.
-Eat light meals.
-Wear lightweight, light colored clothing and a hat.
-Stay in the shade.
-Limit outdoor activity to morning and evening hours.
Heat related illnesses such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke can strike at any time. Symptoms include dizziness, nausea, rapid heartbeat, headache, absence of perspiration and dry, hot flushed skin. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should seek immediate medical attention.

The source also suggested that Ted is leaving the drug and alcohol rehab facility in order to re unite with his girlfriend, who also has had issues with drugs and alcohol.
On a recent episode of Dr. Phil, Ted expressed his desire to reunite with his girlfriend and Dr. Phil urged him to enroll her into rehab as well if he wanted to keep her in his life. Well it looks like Ted is willing to risk it all in order to be with the one he loves.
Ted was also rumored to be working on a nationally syndicated radio show. Will this move kill his chances? Stay tuned to mycolumbuspower.com for more details on Ted Williams arrival back in Columbus and what he intends to do.

Radio One, Inc. Makes Job Offer to Ted Williams, the Man with the Golden Radio Voice
WASHINGTON, D.C. January 5, 2011. Radio One, Inc., announced today that Radio Station WXMG-FM in Columbus, Ohio, which can be found at www.MyColumbusMagic.com, interviewed Ted Williams, the man who has become an Internet sensation and is aptly being referred to as the Man with the Golden Radio Voice, and offered him a full-time job. It would be a fitting return to the airwaves as Mr. Williams worked for WXMG years ago (before it was owned by Radio One), listens to the station and would be a perfect host of the station’s popular nighttime show The Quiet Storm (a format created by Cathy Hughes who founded Radio One), which allows our listeners to leave their hectic day behind and slip into a calm and quiet evening. Radio One is sensitive to the issues that Mr. Williams has faced and as his employer would commit to assisting him with housing, counseling and transportation. Radio One was founded on the premise of “Service to the Community” and so this commitment to Mr. Williams is in keeping with the theme of our 30th Anniversary Celebration in October 2010 during which we gave back to the community in ways that impacted countless lives across the country.

This year’s Heisman Finalists were announced and as expected Cam Newton of Auburn headlined the four. Oregon’s LaMichael James, Kellen Moore of Boise State and Andrew Luck of Stanford are the slightly overshadowed other three. A little over a week ago there was speculation on whether Cam Newton was going to reap the rewards of his phenomenal season.
With the looming NCAA investigation there were many that felt like a vote for Newton was a wasted one. No one wanted to see another Reggie Bush incident. So here we are days away from the Heisman presentation and obviously there were plenty of voters that felt as though the NCAA findings (the association found that Newton was unaware of anything that his father or others may have done) that cleared him to play, were enough. I can’t help but to wonder will it be enough for him to win or were there enough people that allowed the allegations to sway what I feel to be an obvious choice?
